Policies & Procedures

  • Please label all your dancewear, shoes and personal items. We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles or personal property
  • In the waiting area, there is a notice board that has the current newsletter and relevant information. Please take the time to read this information carefully
  • You will receive a KLD newsletter at the commencement of each term with more frequent notices given out during performance preparation times. Please ensure that you check your child’s dance bag regularly for any notices that have not been passed on
  • All classes begin and end on time. Dancers should be prompt to allow for proper warm-up and conditioning
  • When you join with KLD, it is expected that students undertake classes for the full year. Please consider that as a dancer, you are also “part of a team” and are required to attend all classes (extra practices etc). It would be appreciated that students don’t quit for any reasons other than illness or moving interstate
  • A student may be moved to a different class if, after evaluation, the teacher finds that the student is not in the proper class for his or her ability

Studio Rules

  • Only dancers are permitted on the dance floors
  • If you need to pick-up your child early, or wish to speak with a teacher please check in at reception
  • We ask that illness be the only reason for missed class. It is necessary for every dancer to have good attendance in order to progress and develop as a dancer. If your child is going to be absent please notify the studio.
  • No holidays are to be taken during Term 4 as this disrupts end of year concert preparations
  • Students are placed into class accordingly to age and ability. If at any time the teacher feels that the placement is incorrect, you will be notified and the situation rectified. The first priority is to place children where they will progress, with the day and time of the class secondary. Please try to be flexible with scheduling so your child can make the most of his or her dance experience
  • Parents are responsible for supervising their child whilst they are not in class while at the studio. Please discuss this with your child to respect personal and studio property and promote a clean, safe and healthy environment
  • KLD reserves the right to cancel any class at any time due to insufficient enrollment for that particular time. If this occurs, a new time will be arranged for you. We also reserve the right to cancel classes due to illness of staff or reasons of necessity
  • Parents and observers are not allowed in any dance class. Parents are to wait quietly outside the studio, please do not disturb class, as it is a distraction to both teachers and students
  • No food, chewing gum, drinks or belongings are allowed inside any dance room
  • All mobile phones must be turned off while you are inside a dance class
  • Dance bags are to be placed in the storage boxes/hooks in the change-rooms at all times
  • Students are requested not to wear dance shoes to and from classes. Note, if dance shoes are worn outside, you may be asked to leave the class
  • Neatness of appearance is required by all students to assist with discipline, standard of the Academy and correct tuition
  • All students must enrol in the Academy prior to commencement of any class. An enrolment application form must be fully completed and returned with registration levy prior to commencement. Personal details remain confidential
  • Students participating in tap lessons must place their tap shoes in the pink tubs provided at reception, prior to commencement of class. Shoes are checked to ensure plates and screws are correctly attached
  • Teachers are not to be interrupted during class time. All matters of concern or enquiries must be directed through Kerryn or via a message left at reception. Teachers mobile phones or telephone numbers will not be disclosed for privacy reasons. Messages may be left on the studio answering machine at any time

Behaviour Guidelines

Students are expected to conduct themselves with a sense of pride, self discipline and a strong commitment to the studio in all areas of their performances. A responsible attitude and a respect for others are to be reflected in the students’ behaviour both inside and outside the studio.

This code of behaviour expects that all members of the studio community will show behaviour appropriate to the occasion and respect for others.

Students should:-

  • Abide by studio rules and respect the right of others to work in a class environment
  • Respect personal and studio property and promote a clean, safe and healthy environment
  • Behave in a polite, responsible and courteous manner at all times
  • Students must show responsibility for their own property
  • Wear the correct KLD uniform at all times
